Christian Formation

It is our belief that children as well as adults need to have opportunities to practice their faith. The Religious Education programs are in place to supplement what is already happening in the home. It is without question that our expectations would be that parents/guardians would provide children with the opportunity of weekly participation in the Mass and other parish activities. While in the care of Religion Teachers or Catechists the children, in addition, will have several opportunities throughout the year; to participate in prayer in the classroom, Mass, Communion Services, Prayer Services, Sacramental celebrations of Reconciliation, outreach to others by service in the school parish or beyond (nursing homes, soup kitchens, etc.)

Religious Education Curriculum

Within the past few years Religious Education texts and curriculum have been reviewed by the school teachers and after-school catechists. Up-to-date texts have been chosen and found very helpful in the overall program of formation. Both are in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and approved by the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Christ the Good Shepherd School Religion Program uses:

Blest Are We: (Publisher: Silver Burdette copyright 2004) in grades K-8

After school Religious Education Program for public school children uses:
Faith First(Publisher: Resources for Christian Living copyright 2006-Legacy Ed.)
in grades 1-8

Both series of books have very comprehensive programs which include knowledge about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the Sacraments, the Mass, Church, Morality/Conscience Formation, Christian Commitment to Peace and Justice, Christian Service, the Bible, Scripture Stories, Special Feast Days, Saints, People, and Prayers.

Christ the Good Shepherd C.Y.O. Sports Programs

Sports programs are open to all children of the parish - both from the school and the Religious Education Program. However, children must meet strict requirements determined by the diocese and further interpreted by local boosters, athletic director, School and Religious Education administrators and coaches. Ask for policy guidelines from coaches or the respective offices.

Altar Servers

All children in the parish (grades 5 and older) may sign up for altar serving. This is a wonderful way of teaching children love for the Mass as well as develop a sense of responsibility.
