Religious Education Programs


Nursery (for toddlers 18 months to 3 years old) Available every Sunday during the 11:00 AM Mass throughout the year except for holidays. Parent volunteers help in the nursery.
Sunday School (3 - 5 years) Meets every Sunday during the 11:00 AM Mass, September through May.
Grades 1 - 6 Meet every Monday from 4:00 PM to 5:25 PM
Grades 7 - 8 Meet every Monday from 5:45 PM to 7:15 PM
High School Teens High School teen activities are advertised in the weekly Vigil. For further information contact the Religious Education Office (313-382-1818) or e-mail: dre@christgoodshepherd.org.
Family Catechesis (an alternative to weekly classes)- meets once a month from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
Sacramental Programs Sacramental Programs include Baptism, RCIC, First Eucharist, First Reconciliation, and Confirmation.

Nursery- Simply supervised child care while parents attend Mass.

Sunday School - an age appropriate developmental program is used: Sharing God's Story (Brown Roa). Each Sunday has a good mix of Bible Story sharing, singing, crafts and activities.

Grades 1-8 - An age appropriate developmental program Faith First (Resources for Christian Living).  The program has four definite elements:

  • Teaching Doctrine/Bible/Church/Sacraments/Morality
  • Celebrating the sacraments
  • Prayer
  • Service
    Grades 7 and 8 use a modular approach to their lessons and have several catechists on various topics (e.g. Church, Sacraments, Commandments, Vocation, Morality, Social Justice etc.)
