Sacramental Programs
| Baptism |
If
a child is an infant or in first grade or younger, please contact the
parish
office to have the child baptized (313-928-1324). You will be contacted
and a
date set for a preparatory meeting and the Baptism.
If your child
is in 2nd grade or older and
has not been received Baptism, then you must contact the Religious
Education
Director, and discuss the steps that you need to take to help your
child
receive Baptism and the other sacraments appropriate to the age of your
child(313-382-1818). |
First
Eucharist |
· The
child must be baptized
· Normally
has participated the previous two
years in Religious Formation classes & presently is enrolled in the
Religious Formation program or Catholic School
· Attends
Sunday Mass regularly
· Immediate
preparation (after the enrollment)
· Commit
to home based lessons (work on lessons
in the text at least once a week) Attend one parent informational
meeting. This
year the meeting is January 24, 2007, 7:00 P.M.
·
Participate in 2 family catechetical sessions ( usually these will take
place
in January, February, March, April) These are mandatory
This year: Saturday,
February 24, 2007(
9:00-Noon.), Saturday, March 17, 2007 (9:00-Noon, Celebrations begin:
April 14,
2007
·
Celebration of
the sacrament takes place at the Masses during the Easter Season
(Sunday after
Easter through Pentecost) |
First
Reconciliation
(Sometimes called
Penance or Confession)

· A
child must be baptized and has the ability
to know right from wrong (usually this happens between 7 and 9 years of
age)
· Normally
the child has participated the
previous two years in Religious Formation classes & is presently
enrolled
in the Religious Formation Program or Catholic School.
· Participates
in the faith life of the parish
(Mass and devotions)
· Immediate
preparation (after enrollment)
·
Commits to home based lessons (work on lessons in the text at least
once a
week)
· Attend
3 family catechetical sessions with
the D.R.E. or catechists
(Usually these will take place
in October, November,
January)

Family Catechetical/Retreat
Days: Saturday, January 13,2007, 9:00-11:00 & Saturday, February
10, 2006,
9:00-ll:00 A.M.

Celebration of
the Sacrament usually is the beginning of Lent (February or March).
This year
there will be 2 celebrations: Wednesday,
February 28, 2007, 6:30 P.M. and
Friday, March 2, 2006 7:00 P.M.

| Confirmation |
<>· A candidate must be baptized and have received
First Eucharist & First
Reconciliation. >
· Normally
a candidate has had two years of
previous Religious Formation classes & is presently enrolled in the
Religious Formation classes or the Catholic School.
<>· A candidate must have minimum of 20 service
hours and keep of journal of this service.>
· A
candidate must participate in regular
weekend liturgies in the parish.
· After enrollment (Usually this is
the beginning of 8th grade or can include high school students wishing
to
receive the sacrament.)
Enrollment
this year: Wednesday, October 13, 2006 7:00-9:00 P.M.
· Candidates
are required to participate in 8
group sessions with a
designated parent or catechist to do immediate preparation for the
sacrament).
The time can be determined by the catechist and the participants. These
sessions will usually take place once a month throughout the year.
· Candidates
will be expected to celebrate the
Sacrament of Reconciliation
· Candidates
will be required to participate in
a Retreat (usually just preceding the reception of the Sacrament)
· Candidates
will have an interview with one of
the parish staff to
determine whether they are ready for the sacrament.
·
Normally the
sacrament will be celebrated in early October of 9th grade.

R.C.I.A.
Rite of
Christian Initiation
|
Older
Children who are not baptized, or who have
had no previous religious formation and those baptized in another
Christian
church need to talk to the Religious Education Director to see if the
child
should become part of the program ( Rite of Christian Initiation) which
is
designed to help these children and their families become familiar with
the
Bible, the sacraments, the church etc. Meeting times are usually set to
best
accommodate the families and their children. If you have any questions,
do not
hesitate to call the Religious Education Office (313-382-1818). |
