All Saints
Soup Kitchen
As noted in recent news reports, the All Saints
Parish Soup Kitchen in southwest Detroit, experienced a serious setback
recently. The Soup Kitchen, located in the church basement, was
destroyed by fire the day after Christmas. The kitchen, serving hall
and kitchen/cooking equipment sustained extreme fire, smoke and water
damage and the entire food supply in the food pantry was lost.
As part of our parish outreach/Christian service
efforts, CGS Parish has
actively supported the All Saints Soup Kitchen since 1995. Every month,
adult volunteers from our parish and school have helped prepare and
serve
lunch to those in need. Included in the volunteer effort from CGS are
the
volunteer students from our school's Jr. High division who rotate as
volunteer
helpers at the kitchen as part of their Christian service projects for
Confirmation
preparation. The Soup Kitchen serves almost 500 meals a week to
those in need and over 200 families a week are helped by food donations
from the food pantry.
We're asking all CGS parishioners to consider helping
All Saints as they
rebuild this important program. Money donations can be sent directly to:
All Saints Parish
c/o "Soup Kitchen"
7824 West Fort St.
Detroit, MI 48209
You can also drop your contribution in our Sunday
collection basket and we will forward your donation to the church.
The Soup Kitchen will also accept donations of food, but they have
specific
needs. Items needed most include: any kind of canned meat (tuna,
spam, etc.) / peanut butter, jelly, oatmeal, cold cereals, powdered
milk, instant
mashed potatoes, small bags of beans (any kind). No rice, no paper
products. You may drop off any food donations directly to the
Soup Kitchen
at the address listed above. Any questions may be directed to Fr.
Ed, pastor
or Sr. Eileen at All Saints at (313) 841-1428 or call Kathi Campbell at

Let us as a parish family continue to show our caring and sharing spirit
with those in need in our community!
