Respect Life Activities
Respect Life Activities: Respect life Activities occur
within Christ the Good Shepherd parish at the committee level. There are three
primary activities, which take place during the year.
- Life Chain: October is the month that heightens our awareness to
Respect Life, all forms of life. On the first Sunday, Christ the Good Shepherd
parishioners sought and earned the right to initiate a local Life chain on Fort
Street. (The national office of Life chain has traditionally and continues to
hold the Life Chain on Woodward). The Life chain is a silent peaceful protest
against abortion and in defense of human life. The walk begins with a prayer on
the parking lot and then proceeds to Fort street. It is typically held on a
Sunday in early October.
- Roe vs. Wade: January is the month when the anniversary of the Roe Vs
Wade decision was made by the U.S. Supreme Court to legalize abortion in our
country. Respect Life activities are focused upon education and a special mass
is celebrated on a day near the anniversary date.
- Mother’s Day Roses: May is the month of devotion to the Virgin Mary
and respect for human life is promoted in conjunction with Mothers’ Day. Usually
roses are sold on Mother’s day and the profits are donated to the Downriver
Right to Life Office (734-282-6100) strictly for educational purposes.
